We are pleased to share with you the updates to ADHD World.

ADHD World has had a software upgrade. This means that while it has the same features as it used to - there are some differences in how it works. Take a little time to 'poke around' and see the features.
One of the most exciting parts is how the forum is built right into ADHD World, and the groups seem easier to manage and to use for discussion.

We also have a new logo, and a new design for the site. We hope you like the new 'look and feel'.

Please come back and join more discussions and participate some more...

Enjoy!

Dr. Kenny

I don't know how long this will be available online, but a great documentary was recently presented on Canadian TV. It's called: ADD and Loving It. It has several ADHD experts, and a couple of comedians (with ADHD) who take us through the information.
Look for this documentary here: http://news.globaltv.com/Loving/2009300/story.html
Enjoy!

Hi,
We are getting very close to 1000 users on ADHD World.
We are growing...
I wanted to ask the community - what should we do to celebrate when we get to that significant milestone?
I'd be happy to do something to help you all with ADHD even more...
Maybe a video...
Maybe a teleseminar for ADHD World members only...
What do you think?
Please share your thoughts below.
Best,
Dr. Kenny
p.s. and please encourage your friends and loved ones to join (and confirm their email addresses) so that we can make this milestone

I encourage you to take a look at the new video tutorials.
These are short videos (generally 2-3 minutes) which show you how to do some of the major activities of this site.

Most importantly, make sure to watch the videos on:
* privacy settings of your profile
* The discussion boards - this is ideally the best place for discussion on our social network
* how to add a profile picture
* etc.
You can find these videos by clicking on the 'Video Tutorials' link at the top blue bar at the top of every page.
Or, you can click here now:

Enjoy!
Please suggest other topics for videos below.

I am very excited to report that I have launched a new video podcast on ADD and ADHD, called ADHD.TV.

ADHD TV is a video podcast that I plan to release weekly.

The first episode is live on the site right now.

You can watch it on the site, and you can also sign up to the podcast via itunes (there's a video on the site which tells you how to do that).

To go there now, just go to www.ADHD.tv

Enjoy!

Dr. Kenny

p.s. please remember to tell your family, friends and everyone else about it! :-)

There were recently some amendments in the Americans with Disabilities Act which are relevant to ADD/ADHD.
I wrote about it on my main blog, and I wanted to share it here - to bring your attention to it.
You can read the whole article here:

Howie Mandel has come out and shared that he has adult ADHD.

This (Canadian) comedian has been in the forefront of our TV sets recently, with the success of 'Deal or No Deal'.

I'm thrilled to see that Howie has joined a 'public service announcement' to share his experience with Adult ADHD to help to raise awareness for everyone about this.

You can learn more and watch the video of Howie here.

How do you feel about this announcement? Do you think it will help?

Best,
Dr. Kenny

Hi,
ADHDWorld.com has been in existence for a few months.
We have had members join, discussions start, and we are getting new members just about every day now.
I would love your feedback on a few points so that ADHD World can serve you well.
My question:
- What works well for you on ADHD World right now?
- What doesn't work so well/what needs improvement?
- What would you like to see improved or added to ADHD World?
Thanks for your involvement.

A friend just turned me on to 'I Want Sandy'.
This is a website which provides a free virtual assistant. 'She' can email you, or text message you with reminders about any event that you set up.
You can check it out here: I Want Sandy.
It takes a little bit of time to set it up, but then it works really well.
Enjoy!

Hi,
I've just posted on my blog about how the pharmacy funding agency (Pharmac) has just approved funding for Concerta in New Zealand.
This is great for our NZ members.
You can read the full article here: Concerta in New Zealand.
If you are from NZ, please share your thoughts or comments.

At the recent ADDA conference, I saw a great presentation about addiction to video games.
I've just written a review of the positives and negatives of video games when it comes to ADD/ADHD on my main blog.
You can see the article here:

Many parents struggle to parent their kids with ADD/ADHD. This is especially true if there is a comorbid (or co-existing) oppositional defiant disorder.
in general - there are two main parenting approaches that are helpful for this.
They are mutually exclusive - i.e. you can't do a little of each.
1) The 1-2-3 Magic Approach:
Dr. T. Phelan teaches a great parenting model, of how to set structure for your child. This approach can work for kids aged 2-12 years old. As a parent, you set rules, and enforce them without getting angry and losing your cool.
Dr. Phelan is not only a psychologist, but also a dad of an ADHD child. His info is helpful, practical and he delivers it with a sense of humor.
Dr. Phelan has a book, and DVDs (of the same material) and you can find them at: The ADHD Bookstore.
2) The Collaborative Problem Solving Approach:
Dr. Ross Greene is a Harvard Psychologist who has created this approach. It doesn't have the parent set the rules for the kids per se. Instead, it helps the parents to identify what the child's problems are, and then helps the child to find solutions. In a way, the parent acts as a 'frontal lobe' for the child. If the parent can make this system work, it gradually helps the child to figure out and solve issues so that the child is learning with time as well.
Dr. Greene has published this approach in his book: The Explosive Child.
You can find this book here: The ADHD Bookstore.
Please share which parenting approaches have worked for you in the comments below.

ADHD World just launch 5 days ago.
Just before its launch, a major pharmaceutical company sponsored a 'group' on facebook for moms of kids with ADHD.
The big problem with their 'group'?
There is no two way communication!
The experts can share the info, but moms (And dads), can't share info back.
I consider this very web 1.0.
ADHD World groups are completely web 2.0.
You can comment, dialogue and share.
To read my other blog post about it, click here:
ADHD Blog.
I'll keep seeing you right here!

Hi,
I'm really excited to see this site take off with so many people joining.
Some people have started their own groups - and I hope more of you do that.
This will be a great place to support one another, learn from one another and just have fun.
Often times, it's hard to find like minded people in your community for support group meetings. Hopefully - you can find like minded people here!
Please feel free to ask me to be your friend - I'll happily accept.
You can also consider joining my group for discussion - it is here: Dr. Kenny's Group.
Cheers,
Dr. Kenny
